Applications open for the ESOT Mentorship Programme 2027

August 11, 2026 | All

ESOT members are invited to apply as mentors or mentees for a structured, year-long programme offering expert guidance, professional development and meaningful international connections.

Applications are now open for the fifth edition of the ESOT Mentorship Programme, designed to support transplant professionals at key stages of their careers.

Open to ESOT members from all transplantation disciplines and countries, the programme creates opportunities for close interaction, knowledge exchange and personalised guidance. Whether you are looking to develop your career or ready to share your experience with others, there are two ways to participate.

Apply as a mentee

Would you benefit from expert guidance on your personal or professional development?

Selected mentees will be matched with an established transplantation professional whose expertise reflects their interests and area of specialisation. During the year-long programme, mentees will have the opportunity to:

  • Receive personalised professional and career guidance
  • Explore new directions and navigate career decisions
  • Develop their leadership skills
  • Expand their international network
  • Build new professional connections and collaborations
  • Consider career development alongside work–life balance

The ESOT Education Committee will select a maximum of five mentees.

Apply as a mentor

Experienced and established transplantation professionals are invited to contribute their knowledge and help nurture future leaders in the field.

As a mentor, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Share your experience and expertise
  • Support a colleague’s personal and professional development
  • Give something back to the transplantation community
  • Expand your professional network
  • Further develop your management and leadership skills

Prospective mentors should have extensive expertise and a proven track record in transplantation, previous mentoring or supervisory experience, strong communication skills and the ability to provide constructive career advice.

Eligibility

Both mentors and mentees must:

  • Be ESOT members in good standing
  • Be currently employed by a research or care institution
  • Have a good knowledge and understanding of English

No geographical restrictions apply.

Mentees must also commit to engaging actively throughout the structured, year-long programme and participating in the vast majority of mentoring meetings, workshops and related activities.

ESOT is strongly committed to equity, diversity and inclusion. Members of traditionally underrepresented and marginalised groups are particularly encouraged to apply as either mentors or mentees.

How to apply

Applicants will be asked to submit:

  • A brief CV of no more than two pages; longer CVs will not be considered
  • A supporting letter tailored to their chosen role

Prospective mentors should outline their expertise, professional background, motivation, proposed mentoring approach and educational goals.

Prospective mentees should explain their interest in and commitment to the programme, their development needs, the type of mentor they are seeking and what they hope to gain from the experience.

Applications will be reviewed by the ESOT Education Committee. Selected mentees will be presented with several potential mentors and invited to choose according to their interests and area of specialisation.

Application deadline: Tuesday, 27 October 2026 at 23:59 CET
