Uncertainty

As humans we all experience uncertainty and a goal for both patients and health care providers would be to reduce uncertainty, especially about something as important as illness. When uncertainty in illness is appraised as a threat, it can lead to problems with adaptation. If uncertainty is left untreated or unaddressed it may cause increased psychosocial problems. Furthermore there is evidence suggesting that uncertainty is a nonlinear process and may fluctuate as a function of changing levels of symptoms and stress.

Fear of graft rejection

It is obvious that the leading main concern is fear of graft rejection and uncertainty in relation to graft survival. The perceived threat of the risk of graft rejection exists in the tension between the immunosuppressive therapy prescribed to prevent graft rejection, symptoms caused by the side-effects of the medication and adherence issues, where organ recipients might be tempted to be non-adherent due to too many negative side-effects despite being aware of the increased risk of graft rejection.
