European Day for Organ Donation and Transplantation 2020

August 24, 2020 | Organ donation | Patients | Transplant coordination | Transplant nursing

The European Day for Organ Donation and Transplantation (EODD) takes place to raise awareness on the importance of organ, tissue and cell donation as a way to improve and save lives. The EDQM, Council of Europe, organises this event in a different country every year and, more generally, sets quality, safety and ethical standards for organ, tissue and cell donation and transplantation.

The EODD seeks not only to encourage public debate and reflection on this topic, but to invite the medical community and policy makers across Europe to reflect on the importance of this life saving therapy.

Most of all, the EODD is an opportunity to honour all organ donors and their families and to thank transplantation professionals, whose hard work helps to save lives and improve many people’s quality of life.

Taking in account the pandemic situation which affects all countries worldwide and the uncertainty related to the organisation of major public events in the coming months, it was decided to celebrate EODD 2020 online. Poland will be official host for the EODD 2021. More information will be provided as available.
