From Performance to Resilience: An End-of-Year Reflection from ESOT

December 22, 2025 | All

As we come to the close of the year, we take a moment to reflect not only on what we have achieved but on how we have moved forward together.

In transplantation, resilience comes not from pushing harder, but from listening more carefully. It emerges when the full breadth of the transplantation community feels heard, particularly those engaged in the daily realities of practice. This collective awareness allows the field to respond, evolve, and move forward together.

Our ESOT community is no different.

This year has reminded us that true strength does not lie solely in efficiency, output, or speed. It lies in robustness: our shared capacity to adapt, to learn, and to care for one another in the face of complexity. That capacity is reinforced when we actively listen across disciplines, experiences, and career stages, and remain open to ideas that challenge established ways of working.

Progress in transplantation, like progress in any living system, does not come from force or resistance alone. It comes from learning communities, from shared reflection, and from creating spaces where ideas can develop safely before spreading more widely. When we strengthen the margins, the centre follows.

As we look ahead, ESOT remains committed to nurturing these spaces, where curiosity is encouraged, dialogue is open, and change is shaped collectively rather than imposed. We believe that sustainable impact emerges when communities grow wiser together, not when they simply push harder.

Thank you for being part of this living system. Thank you for your engagement, your questioning, your care, and your willingness to adapt.

We wish you a reflective end to the year and a new year filled with resilience, collaboration and renewed purpose.

With warm regards,

Olivier Thaunat
ESOT President
