Andrea Zajacová: ESOT Transplant Fellow 2024

April 4, 2024 | All | Education

Andrea Zajacová is a dedicated pulmonologist and, through the Prague Lung Transplant Program, has undergone extensive training in the dynamic field of lung transplantation. In 2023 alone, the program accomplished a remarkable 67 lung transplants, showcasing their commitment to advancing the frontiers of transplant medicine. With a specialisation in both clinical practice and research related to lung transplantation, A focuses on a critical area – chronic lung allograft dysfunction (CLAD). Recognising CLAD as the primary factor limiting long-term survival in lung transplant recipients, the fellowship, supervised by the esteemed Professor Robin Vos in the Leuven Lung Transplant Program, is an incredible opportunity.
Andrea will explore the newest developments in research and diagnostics and treatment of CLAD and chronic pulmonary graft versus host disease (GVHD). The mission is clear – to understand the causes and mechanisms of these conditions, enabling early diagnosis and implementing preventive measures. A emphasises the importance of centralising patients into specialised care programmes with multidisciplinary expertise to improve survival rates. The primary goals of this fellowship are ambitious and inspiring – to assess factors determining clinical outcomes, identify knowledge gaps, and prioritise clinical research. The ultimate aim is to develop personalised care and therapies for CLAD and pGvHD, addressing an unmet need in the field.

Upon returning to Prague, Andrea has a visionary objective – establishing centralised care for patients with pGvHD in the Czech Republic. This initiative reflects a commitment to improving patients’ lives and elevating the standards of care in transplantation.

Andrea’s dedication to advancing lung transplantation and commitment to pioneering personalised care is commendable.
