I will continue my work in the CR2TI lab in Nantes for at least 2 years. When at least 10 patients are included in the bio-collection, the samples will be analysed with similar techniques I have learned so far. I cannot thank ESOT enough for this opportunity and will continue my clinical and fundamental research in the field of transplantation in the future.

My principal goal for this 1-year fellowship has been to enhance my knowledge in the clinical managing of kidney transplantation, expanding my clinical skills, especially thanks to the integration of novel tools and technologies. This goal has been attainable in a structure of excellence capable of providing a clinical experience deeply bound to the novel instruments delivered by clinical research.

I would like to extend my greatest appreciation to Professors Konrad Hoetzenecker and Walter Klepetko and all the other members of the team in Vienna and to the European Society for Organ Transplantation for giving me this opportunity and making it a hugely valuable learning experience that I’m convinced will benefit me and my future patients for the rest of my career no matter what the future will bring.

After spending 19 months, I am pleased to conclude a productive fellowship in Leuven. First and foremost, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to my supervisors, Profs. De Leyn, Van Raemdonck, and Ceulemans. They were very helpful and supportive from when I was selected as a fellow until the end of my fellowship. The fellowship has reached its aims by participating in many operations actively for lung transplants and general thoracic procedures. Although the COVID crisis hurt the proposed research study, we could conclude a European multi-centre clinical research study during my fellowship. Indeed, I will carry the Leuven experience into my future practical life. I will also be committed to supporting ESOT activities during my career and encouraging young professionals to join this exciting society. With this opportunity, I would like to sincerely thank the selection committee for this honour again.

My overall experience this year in Barcelona was excellent. Despite the coronavirus crisis, I could enjoy Barcelona and access to the laboratory. I had the privilege to work in a welcoming and wonderful team, to whom I am grateful for their help and support. The ESOT fellowship allowed me to take a full year off my hospital duties and fully enjoy a time dedicated to research.
