Ilker Iskender is a thoracic surgeon from Turkey. He has a special interest in lung transplantation and is currently working within the Department of Thoracic Surgery at the University Hospitals Leuven as a surgical fellow. After completion of a residency program in Istanbul, Turkey, he first went to Toronto, Canada to expand his scientific skills in the field of lung transplantation. He received a Master of Science degree from the University of Toronto in 2014. Thereafter, He has registered as a medical practitioner in the United Kingdom and I worked as a cardiothoracic retrieval fellow at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham. Following the UK training, he has appointed as a registrar at the University Hospital Zurich, Switzerland between 2017 and 2019. He has published more than 20 peer reviewed articles and speaks English and German fluently. He aims to complete his training in Leuven, Belgium and become a surgeon-scientist focusing on the treatment of end stage lung diseases.
