Description & Objectives:

This series of online workshops aims to share and discuss best practices in induction therapy in kidney transplantation. Selected centres in Italy, the United Kingdom, and France will discuss their approach to induction therapy and present clinical cases for discussion with the audience. Through interactive lectures and engaging case study discussions, the workshops will highlight the importance of induction treatment for the overall success of transplantation and will provide practical guidance on how to approach specific scenarios.

The second workshop in this series, “Decision making when transplanting highly sensitised patients”, will be hosted by the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff, United Kingdom, and will take place on 26 March, 17:00-18:30 CET.

Despite recent scientific and therapeutic advances, overcoming the immunological barrier of HLA sensitisation remains a challenge. Many offering schemes are designed to accommodate highly sensitised recipients, and for patients with a medically suitable but immunologically incompatible living donor, kidney sharing schemes offer an opportunity for a compatible transplant. However, many sensitised patients will face a long delay before receiving a transplant.

This interactive workshop is designed to deliver a case-based discussion of the approaches to facilitate transplantation of highly sensitised recipients, including the choice of induction agent.
