Description & Objectives:

This is the largest meeting in Europe in the field of beta cell replacement, including pancreas and islet transplantation and stem cell-derived insulin-secreting cells. Scientists, clinicians, students, and the technical staff get together to share knowledge, experiences and outcomes. This meeting is critical to provide guidance to young professionals and collectively provide a European and International consensus (Igls score, and in 2024, a consensus meeting for Islet quality and release criteria).

We aim to promote engagement with clinicians, scientists, trainees and allied healthcare professionals across Europe with pancreas and islet transplantation expertise. To share new scientific developments and techniques. To benchmark outcomes and results across European centres involved in clinical pancreas and islet transplantation. To promote education for scientists, clinicians, trainees and allied healthcare professionals involved in pancreas and islet transplantation.

Learning objectives

  1. Guide expertise in islet isolation and patient management
  2. Aspects of Immunology and current immunosuppression relevant to patients who have beta cell replacement

Awards

The 13th EPITA Symposium will feature a session called the EPITA Prize, where the highest-scored abstracts will be presented. The session will occur on 30 January, from 14:00 to 15:00 CET. A panel of independent jury members will evaluate the presentations, and the one with the highest score will receive an award of 1500 EUR.

Moreover, there will be a poster competition as part of the event, and the best poster will be awarded 500 EUR. All delegates are invited to participate in the poster-scoring process. To do so, they can scan the QR code available in the poster area to access the scoring system. The posters will be rated based on their scientific merit, innovation, and presentation quality.

To provide an opportunity for delegates to interact with the presenters and discuss their research in detail, a dedicated time slot for the formal poster viewing has been arranged. The poster viewing will take place on Monday, 29 January, from 18:00 to 19:00 CET. We highly recommend attending this session to make the most of your experience and contribute to this exciting competition. Therefore, we encourage you to take part and help us identify the most exceptional research presented at the event.
