ELITA SPLIT LIVER Masterclass 2025

Description & Objectives:

This split liver masterclass is a premier hands-on surgical training programme designed for surgeons with initial experience in liver transplantation who seek to master the complex and life-saving technique of split liver transplantation for adults and paediatric patients. Over two intensive days, participants will receive expert-led mentorship, refine their surgical precision, and engage in realistic hands-on practice using human livers in a state-of-the-art Skills Lab.

Hosted at one of Europe’s leading transplant centres, this masterclass provides a practice-focused learning experience, blending theoretical knowledge with cutting-edge surgical simulations. Participants will train with internationally renowned faculty, performing step-by-step split liver techniques, while incorporating advanced liver perfusion technology.

This exclusive masterclass is limited to 24 participants, ensuring personalised mentorship and intensive hands-on training. Attendees will leave with enhanced surgical proficiency, deeper anatomical insights, and the ability to confidently initiate split liver transplantation under supervision.

 

Selection process 

Participation in this year’s SPLIT LIVER Masterclass will be subject to a selection process. 

The application submission period will start on 4 June and will close on 7 July. 

Interested applicants are requested to submit their application to silvia.valls@esot.org including the following documents: 

  • CV (max. 2 pages) 
  • Motivation letter 
  • Letter of recommendation by head of department. 

Applications will be reviewed by the Scientific Committee according to the following selection criteria:  

  • Finished surgical training  
  • Initial experience in liver transplantation or in the setting of a liver transplant programme  
  • Experience in multiorgan donor surgery.  

 

Following the selection process, successful candidates will be notified approximately by the end of July and invited to complete their registration. 

Please note that the selection process does not apply to ESOT grant recipients who have chosen to attend the course through the grant, as they are automatically admitted. They will be contacted separately with all relevant administrative instructions to get the grant and register for the course.

Fees and Policies

Registration fees: 

  • ESOT member with ELITA affiliation*: 1.200 EUR 
  • Non-member: 1.400 EUR 

All fees are VAT included 

* in order to be eligible to register with an ESOT member fee, you must be an active ESOT member with ELITA affiliation at least until the end of the masterclass.

The registration fee includes:

Invoices 

Invoices will be issued exclusively for payments made via bank transfer. If you require an invoice, please ensure you select this payment method.  

Cancellation policy  

There will be no refunds once your registration has been confirmed. Refunds will be issued only if the Organiser elects to cancel the event due to force majeure. Should ESOT decide to cancel in-person courses, this will be communicated to all registered participants a month before the start date of the event.
