Roberta Angelico is an Associate Professor of General Surgery and a consultant surgeon in the Transplantation and Hepatobiliopancreatic (HPB) Unit at the University of Rome Tor Vergata, Rome, Italy. Her clinical activity includes adult and paediatric liver transplantation, kidney transplantation, and HPB surgery, with particular focus on donor optimisation, graft preservation, and perioperative management.

After completing her general surgery training at the University of Rome Tor Vergata, Dr. Angelico pursued further specialised training by a fellowship in liver transplantation at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham, UK (2014–2016). Later, she conducted a fellowship in paediatric liver and kidney transplantation at the Bambino Gesù Children’s Hospital in Rome (2016–2019). These experiences strengthened her expertise across both adult and paediatric transplant settings.

In 2020, she was appointed Assistant Professor of General Surgery and consultant surgeon at the HPB and Transplant Unit of the University of Rome Tor Vergata. She advanced to Associate Professor of Surgery in 2022, further expanding her academic responsibilities in clinical care, teaching, and research.

Dr. Angelico holds a PhD in Organ Transplantation. Her main research interests include immunosuppression, operational tolerance, split liver transplantation, and organ preservation. She has authored 136 peer-reviewed publications in international journals, reflecting her sustained contribution to clinical and translational research in transplantation.

As member of ESOT since 2016, Dr. Angelico is actively engaged in several international professional groups. She was also part of the ELITA–ESOT Working Group of the Consensus Guidelines on Deceased Donor Liver Utilization and Assessment, contributing to the development of evidence-based guidance for this evolving technique. Since 2023, she has been appointed as Chair of the International Liver Transplant Society (ILTS) Special Interest Group on Immunology, promoting global collaboration in transplant immunology.

In addition, Dr. Angelico serves as an Associate Editor of the American Journal of Transplantation. She is a Fellow of the European Board of Surgery (Transplant Section) of the UEMS and contributes to the UEMS Vanguard Committee, supporting advancements in surgical training and standards across Europe.
