Dr. Husen is an associate professor at the Department of General, Visceral and Transplant Surgery at the University of Heidelberg, Germany.
She graduated from Medical School at the University of Essen in Germany. Following her doctoral thesis on hypoxic gene regulation, she competed a three-year postdoctoral research fellowship at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai (Division of Liver Diseases) in New York, NY, USA.
Dr. Husen completed her Residency in General Surgery at the University Hospital Essen, Germany. Following her residency, she completed an ASTS-accredited transplant surgery fellowship at Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN, USA (2020-2022).
Her current practice includes surgical oncology, HPB and transplant surgery (liver, kidney, pancreas, living donation, pediatric kidney transplantation).
Dr. Husen is a member of the American Society of Transplant Surgeons (ASTS), The Transplantation Society (TTS), the German Transplant Society (DTG), and the European Union of Medical Specialists (UEMS – Donor, Liver, Pancreas, Kidney). She is an associate editor for the journal Transplantation. Her research efforts include organ regeneration and preservation, as well as disparities in access to transplantation.
