Maria Irene Bellini is a Transplant Surgeon in Belfast City Hospital. She graduated from the University of Tor Vergata in Rome (IT), where she also achieved a certification of completion of training and a research doctorate. She moved to the UK to complete her PhD in Oxford and undertake further subspecialty training. During this time, she developed an interest in organ perfusion devices, in fact later on she held the responsibility for the machine perfusion clinical program at Imperial College London, conducting grant funded translational research.
Maria Irene Bellini was awarded of a scholarship to visit the Erasmus Medical Centre in Rotterdam (NE) and acquire expertise in living kidney donation, one of her main clinical interest. Maria Irene is a Board Member of the Vanguard Committee of the European Fellows in Transplant Surgery, Board Member of EKITA (European Kidney Transplant Association), a Committee within ESOT (European Society Organ Transplantation), Board member of the ESOT Education Committee and Lead for the Education Transplant live e-platform. She is also an Associate Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the Lead for the Association of Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland (ASGBI) Women in Surgery Section.
