Luciano Potena MD PhD is associate medical director for the heart failure unit of the heart and lung transplant program of Bologna University, which is one of the largest heart transplant programs in Italy. Dr Potena’s activity in advanced heart failure and heart transplant medicine characterized his training since his MD graduation in 1997. He completed his training as a cardiologist and then earned a PhD degree by working in Bologna and in Stanford, CA. He is co-author of 60 full papers in peer-reviewed journals and the research group he is leading covers most of the hot topics of the field, such as CMV infection, CAV, complications of immunosuppressive therapy, AMR, and selection for heart transplant candidates. He has been a member of ISHLT since 2001, and has attended to several duties within the society, including abstract reviewing, member of the program committee, and member of the strategic planning committee. He is currently a member of the editorial board of the Journal, of the Links newsletter and of the task force for the revision of the heart transplant listing guidelines.
