Lissette Aviles is a nurse and lecturer at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland. She qualified in Chile, where she worked clinically, in research and in education for more than twelve years. Her professional experience working in critical care, chronic and acute renal replacement therapies, and teaching across Latin America inspired her passion for evidence-based, person-centred and ethical practice. In 2016, she moved to Scotland for my PhD, which focused on the process of approaching families for deceased organ donation, developing a middle-range theory to understand difficult conversations at the end of life. Her research interests span various areas including organ donation, person-centred care approaches, people’s, families’ and healthcare professionals’ experiences, and how this understanding can contribute to practice, education and policy. In her current role, she is also the lead of the Nursing Ethics Committee.
