PD Dr. med. Dr. med. habil. Helmut P. Arbogast is Assoc. Prof. and staff member of the Department of General, Visceral and Transplant Surgery, at the University of Munich, Grosshadern Medical Centre, where he also spent his residency from 1987 to 1994 and his fellowship, from 1994 to 2000. From 2000 to 2004, he was Vice Director of the Division of Transplant Surgery and from 2004 to 2010, he had the position of Managing Director of the Transplant Centre of the University of Munich, specialized in Pancreas and Kidney transplantation. Currently, he is head of the Surgical Policlinic A. Dr. Arbogast’s medical training included a postgraduate externship at the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis and Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN, U.S.A., as a Fulbright and Cusanus scholar, from 1983 to 1984, followed by two years as researcher at the Institute for Pharmacology and Toxicology of the German Army, from 1985-1987. He received his doctorate in 1986, at the University of Munich with “magna cum laude” and was awarded his PD from the University of Munich, in 2014. He has been member of the executive board of the German Transplant Society, for the past 10 years and member of the board of EPITA, for the past 8 years. Being a member of the Permanent Commission on Organ Transplantation of the Federal Medical Council, he is responsible head for the German guidelines for Pancreas transplantation. As board member of the German Transplant Academy, he is also responsible director of the Walter-Brendel-College, the German Transplant School, since 2015. Since June-2021, Dr. Arbogast has again been listed among the Top Surgeons of Germany.
