EPITA is established to provide a forum for those working in the field of pancreas and islet of Langerhans transplantation or any other alternative form of beta cell replacement in Europe, to exchange scientific information and views related primarily to providing the best service for patients in Europe requiring pancreas or islet transplantation.

Frank J.M.F. Dor, MD PhD FEBS(hon) FRCS
Frank obtained his MD cum laude at Erasmus University Rotterdam, the Netherlands, he obtained a prestigious postdoctoral fellowship in Boston, USA at Harvard Medical School leading to a cum laude PhD in transplant immunology, Frank was trained as abdominal transplant surgeon at Erasmus MC, Rotterdam and became a Consultant Transplant Surgeon and Surgical Director of Kidney Transplantation. In 2016, he joined the Imperial College Renal and Transplant Centre at Hammersmith Hospital, London, UK as Consultant Transplant Surgeon and Clinical Lead for Transplantation, until he re-joined the Erasmus MC Transplant Institute, Rotterdam, The Netherlands in July 2024.
Frank is an active clinical/translational scientist, and a passionate educationalist. He was Chair of ESOT’s education committee, co-chair of ELPAT’s living organ donation working group, and Hesperis Course chair. He is Director of the ESOT Live Donor Nephrectomy Course (LIDO course) and member of the European Surgical Association, was Council Member of ESOT (2 terms), Council Member of the BTS (2 terms), Chair of the BTS Chapter of Surgeons, Deputy-Chair of the Kidney Advisory Group of NHSBT, and Chair of the Clinical Ethics Committee of Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust. He has been Secretary General of the European Society for Surgical Research (ESSR) and Senior Secretary of the UEMS Division for Transplant Surgery, and now serves as President of the UEMS Thematic Federation ‘Equality, Diversity and Inclusivity’. He is the current ESOT Treasurer and member of the executive committee.
Frank is Editor-in-Chief of European Surgical Research, Academic Editor of PlosOne, Associate Editor of Transplantation and the World Journal of Transplantation, and editorial board member of several other transplant and surgical journals. He has published widely in peer-reviewed journals and books.
