Patient Advocate.

An approachable and motivated community worker and a high-profile patient advocate and member of the BAME community, experienced in engaging and developing awareness with individuals and communities to encourage organ donation. Working with National Health Service Blood Transplant, healthcare organisations, the NHS and kidney charities such as Kidney Care UK, National Kidney Federation, Kidney Patient Involvement Network, The Kidney Quality Improvement Partnership to deliver and engage patient involvement and advocacy, education and quality improvement across the renal community. Outside of renal support, providing counselling and support to youth and underprivileged members to support and improve the quality of their lives.

Roles Held

Renal Patient Led Advisory Network (RPLAN) Committee Member

Working with 5 NHS Trusts in the North West Region advocating for patients and advising the N.W NHSE renal network, leading the way kidney patients are involved in quality improvement.

Kidney Research UK: Research Network & Community Ambassador.     Part of the research network that gives a patient overview of research applications.

Personalised Care Group at NHS ENGLAND AND NHS IMPROVEMENT: Peer Leader –    Covered how change happens in big organisations. Also covered the approach to strategic coproduction for personalised care and the knowledge, skills, qualities and behaviours of a Peer Leader. This included how to influence people by telling your personal story effectively.

NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT) – Volunteer Organ Donation Ambassador:  Promoting and raising awareness more broadly about organ and tissue donation, as an ambassador for NHSBT.

Engaging with local media outlets in producing newspaper articles and short news clips, as well as attending virtual talks (due to Covid-19) with patients and professionals to provide a personal empathetic story in order to encourage the need for open dialogue, in regard to organ donation. Bringing awareness to the general public on the effect of new laws such as Max and Keira’s Law, which changed the rules of organ donation from opt in to a soft opt out.  Engaged with the Community Investment Scheme, applying for funds of money to raise awareness of organ donation, as well as dispelling commonly held views and myths, looking to increase levels of organ donation uptake within the BAME community.
