The ESOT Legacy Award winner 2025
It was a great honour and wonderful surprise to receive the message that I had been awarded the 2025 ESOT Legacy Award. The strategies the immune system uses to respond to a transplant have fascinated me throughout my career. Working with talented scientists and clinical fellows undertaking research training in Oxford, many of whom remain active in the field, has been a great privilege. Working closely with clinical colleagues and patients at the Oxford Transplant Centre and with colleagues internationally enabled us to successfully translate our laboratory data on regulatory T cells therapy into a clinical trial in kidney transplantation. Information exchange and collaboration between scientists and clinicians will continue to ensure that new discoveries are effectively translated into clinical practice to improve outcomes in cell and organ transplantation.
