Description & Objectives:

Project description:
The ESOT Basic Science Committee aims to relaunch the webinar series following its pause after the 2025 ESOT Congress, with the objective of promoting interaction across ESOT sections and encouraging multidisciplinary collaboration. Reflecting the mission of the BSC, the series will focus on basic and translational science, highlighting emerging discoveries, technological advances, and innovative approaches with the potential to shape transplantation research and future clinical management. The series will maintain the established format of combining perspectives from experienced experts with contributions from early-career colleagues to provide both historical context and state-of-the-art insights. Collaboration with other ESOT sections will be actively encouraged to foster cross-disciplinary exchange, and the Young Professionals in Transplantation (YPT) group will be engaged to support speaker identification and contribute to webinar delivery. Where relevant, patient perspectives and contributions from Allied Health Professionals will also be incorporated to broaden discussion and promote inclusive engagement across the transplant community.

Need:
IRI is still a major determinant of early graft dysfunction and long-term transplant outcomes across solid organs.  Over recent years, the possibility to modulate static preservation temperature is offering new opportunities to improve organ quality before transplantation. Building on accumulating evidence from donor lung preservation, this webinar will provide an overview of IRI mechanisms and clinical consequences, providing deeper insight into emerging preservation concepts and their potential impact on transplantation outcome.

Educational objectives:
Stimulating thought, generating scientific discourse, building links between ESOT sections.
