Machine Perfusion Masterclass 2027

Start Date:

End Date:
Friday, February 12th 2027
Timezone:
CET
Country:
Madrid, Spain
Description & Objectives:

The Machine Perfusion Masterclass is an advanced, two-day, in-person educational programme designed for transplant professionals across disciplines who are currently involved, or planning to be involved, in machine perfusion protocols for abdominal and thoracic organs. It provides comprehensive theoretical training in the principles of organ preservation and machine perfusion technologies, alongside practical, hands-on experience with perfusion devices in a controlled laboratory environment. Special emphasis is placed on the clinical integration of machine perfusion, including programme setup, operational workflows, and the development of clinical and research protocols.

In addition to technical and clinical training, the Masterclass promotes collaborative learning through a structured group project component. Participants work in small, mentored groups to design a realistic clinical or research-based implementation project tailored to their institutional context. Projects are presented at the end of the course, with the most outstanding receiving an award. Supported by an international, multidisciplinary faculty, the Masterclass fosters shared standards, cross-specialty collaboration, and professional development in the field of organ transplantation.

Prior to the Masterclass, participants take part in an online kick-off session, where the programme is introduced, group assignments are defined, and expectations for the group project are outlined. Participants are also provided with curated pre-learning materials to ensure a shared baseline of knowledge and to maximise engagement during the in-person course.

Learning Objectives

By the end of the Masterclass, participants will be able to:

  • Apply practical tools and strategies to establish and manage a machine perfusion programme in clinical or research settings.
  • Gain hands-on experience with back-table preparation and organ cannulation techniques.
  • Understand the mechanisms and functioning of perfusion devices.
  • Integrate perfusion machines effectively into routine clinical practice, including through research protocol development.

Participation is limited to 30 participants (20 standard, plus 10 observers) to ensure an interactive and high-quality learning experience.

Target Group:

Transplant professionals of all disciplines, including perfusionists, allied healthcare professionals, coordinators, physicians, and clinicians, who are currently involved or planning to be involved in machine perfusion protocols.

The Preliminary Programme will be available soon.
