Timezone:

Country:
Valencia, Spain
Description & Objectives:

HESPERIS is a comprehensive course on organ transplantation, ideally suited for physicians, surgeons, and scientists entering the field of transplantation.

The 2025 edition of the HESPERIS Course consists of a three-day in-person programme which includes lectures on both foundational and hot topics in transplantation, breakout sessions, group discussions, and interactive case study presentations.

In this dynamic and interactive live environment, participants will have the chance to gain firsthand knowledge from some of the most experienced professionals in the transplant field. HESPERIS 2025 brings together a varied faculty to address a comprehensive spectrum of topics in transplantation. Sessions are focused on issues in transplant immunology, organ donation and preservation, recipient evaluation and management, regenerative medicine, and person-centred care. The 2025 edition introduces a dedicated focus on Extracorporeal Photopheresis (ECP), a developing area of interest in the field.

The HESPERIS Course also offers a wide range of online preparatory materials and lectures that participants are strongly encouraged to take advantage of.

To promote active engagement and to stimulate close interaction among attendees and educators, participation in this course is limited to 45 attendees.

Selection process & Financial support

Participation in this year’s HESPERIS Course will be subject to a selection process.

The application submission period will start on 5 May and will close on 3 June

Interested applicants must submit their application to denise.desalvo@esot.org including the following documents:
• CV (max. 2 pages)
• Motivation letter
• Support letter from the head of the department

Following the selection process, successful candidates will be notified approximately by the end of June and invited to complete their registration.
Please note that the selection process does not apply to ESOT grant recipients who have chosen to attend the course through the grant, as they are automatically admitted. They will be contacted separately with all relevant administrative instructions to get the grant and register for the course.

ESOT will provide financial support to selected participants, covering travel expenses (up to EUR 300) and one night’s accommodation (up to EUR 200). Participants will be responsible for making their own travel and accommodation arrangements, with reimbursement provided after the course.

Requirements and award:

To enhance interaction and participation, learners will be invited to submit clinical cases for discussion on the main topics of the course and to present them onsite. The best one will be awarded with the “Paolo Muiesan Award for the Best Case Study Presentation”, which consists of a free ESOT membership and free registration for the main ESOT event in 2026 (further information will be shared at a later date).

In preparation for the in-person portion of the course:

Participants are strongly encouraged to review the online materials to prepare for the in-person portion of the course and to select the topics they wish to delve into, depending on their individual needs and level of expertise.

While completion of the online programme and activities is not required, these materials cover important topics that may not be included in the in-person programme of the course, and therefore are strongly recommended and a key component of the educational opportunity offered by the HESPERIS Course.
