Description & Objectives:

The ESOT Education Committee, in collaboration with the Basic Science Committee, will deliver a 2-and-a-half-day residential summer school for promising trainees interested in a career of innovation, scholarship, and leadership in the field of transplantation science. The main focus will be on developing an overarching backbone of knowledge spanning the transplant life journey, as well as providing a high-level understanding of traditional/emerging scientific approaches to enhance understanding. Secondary objectives will be to provide mentorship and develop a social/academic network for students to leverage as they become the leaders of tomorrow. 

Learning objectives:

  • Developing an overarching backbone of knowledge that describes the transplant life journey, including the patient experience 
  • Combine clinical and scientific expertise, exposing students to the multi-disciplinary reality of transplant medicine 
  • Exposure to cutting-edge scientific tools to facilitate the next significant breakthroughs in transplant research 
  • Provide mentoring and networking opportunities, facilitating and empowering meaningful relations and future collaborations across the European community 

Application process  

Participation in this year’s Transplant Science Summer School will be by application. The application submission period will open on Monday, 2 February, and close on Sunday, 15 March.  Applications submitted outside of this time frame will not be considered.

Interested applicants will be required to submit the following documents: 

  • A CV (maximum 2 pages) 
  • A motivation letter outlining how the course will advance their future research aspirations and career 
  • A support letter from the Head of Department. 

After review of the applications, successful candidates will be notified at the beginning of April and invited to confirm their participation by booking their travel and submitting the required details to secure their place. 

Travel costs must be covered by participants; however, ESOT will cover registration and accommodation for two nights (11–12 June and 12–13 June). 

All accommodation will be arranged by ESOT at the event venue, and participants are not required to make individual reservations. 

Applicants must be ESOT members in good standing at the time of application, and successful participants must remain members until completion of the activity. 

Target Group:

Young professionals (clinical and scientific expertise) with aspirations for scientific advancements in transplantation from a range of backgrounds including nurses, physicians, surgeons, allied healthcare professionals, and scientists in transplantation. 

Participation is limited to 30 attendees to ensure an interactive and high-quality learning experience.

How to register

Selection process

Participation in the Transplant Science Summer School Course will be subject to a selection process to diversify the group and prioritise those at a certain stage in their careers. Further details will become available at a later stage.

Registration fees and two nights of accommodation are fully covered by ESOT.

ESOT will handle all accommodation arrangements directly, so participants do not need to book their own accommodation.
