Description & Objectives:

Join us for the second workshop in the ACADEMIA series: Statistics for Non-statisticians. In the field of transplantation, clinicians and researchers frequently encounter statistical analyses in research papers, clinical trials, and registry reports. However, many professionals lack formal training in statistics, making it challenging to critically assess findings, choose appropriate methods for their own research, or recognise common misinterpretations of data.

The session will cover:
  • Fundamental principles of statistics (distributions, confidence intervals, p-values)
  • Finding the right test (a step-by-step guide to selecting appropriate statistical tests based on study design and data type, reducing the risk of misapplication)
  • Common fallacies in research papers (identifying frequent statistical pitfalls to improve critical appraisal of transplant scientific literature)

Panellists include:

  • Liset Pengel, The Netherlands
  • Muhammed Khurram, United Kingdom
  • Hessel Peters-Sengers, The Netherlands

Programme:

  • Welcome
  • Fundamental principles of statistics, types of data
  • Finding the Right Test
  • Common Fallacies in Research Papers
  • Close remarks
