Description & Objectives:

The Hepatologist in a Liver Transplant Program (HLTP) is a course on liver transplantation for young hepatologists and trainees seeking to advance their knowledge of the key issues and multidisciplinary approaches in the field. Organised by ELITA and AISF (the Italian Association for the Study of the Liver), HLTP helps participants develop the clinical skills necessary to refer potential liver transplant candidates adequately and to diagnose and correctly manage post-transplant complications.

The course will cover the management of acute and chronic liver failure; emerging and complex indications for liver transplantation; innovations in organ donation and transplantation aimed at addressing donor shortages; recent advances in transplant oncology; and the long-term care of liver transplant recipients. Particular emphasis will be placed on multidisciplinary decision-making and the practical application of new developments throughout the transplant pathway.

As advances in transplantation medicine, surgery, immunosuppression, organ preservation and post-transplant care continue to improve patient outcomes, specialised education and ongoing professional development remain essential. HLTP aims to support the next generation of transplant hepatologists and multidisciplinary transplant professionals by strengthening their knowledge, enhancing clinical decision-making and promoting a holistic approach to patient care.

By bringing together trainees and experts from a range of disciplines, the programme supports the exchange of best practice and fosters collaboration. It contributes to the delivery of high-quality care for liver transplant candidates and recipients.
