Description & Objectives:

The success of pancreas transplantation is predominantly influenced by the associated surgical complications both early and late. One of the most dreaded vascular complications is hemorrhage, which is frequently both life and graft threatening. Management and diagnosis is a challenge, as well as deciding on the appropriate choice of treatment. Depending on the scenario therapeutic options are diverse and complex these include either conservative, radiological or surgical methods. Endovascular management is also an attractive choice, both in the perioperative and non-perioperative setting. There has also been an increase in the use of surgical/pharmacological adjuncts which can also be useful for some of these scenarios. The aim of this webinar is to discuss the complexities of managing such patients in both the acute and chronic setting.

Target audience

The audience includes but is not limited to:
• Transplant surgeons (trainees and attending) and urologists.
• Radiologists
• Nephrologists and other clinicals who care for the patient after the transplant in the postoperative period
• Physicians (residents, fellows, ..) with an involvement in pancreas transplantation
• Nurses with involvement in postoperative care of transplanted patients
• General surgeons and clinicals who are on call at a transplant center.

Educational Objectives

Participants attending this webinar will be able to:
• learn the different treatment options for managing bleeding after pancreas transplantation
• appraise the role of technological advances in the field including both surgical advances and advances in interventional radiology interventional.
This will be performed by a Q&A session using various case scenarios.
