Training for Organ Donation in ICU – Endorsed by ESOT

This training course programme covers the basic and advanced aspects of organ donation in the ICU giving participants an opportunity to acquire comprehensive knowledge and skills on the following topics:

• Ethical and legal aspects of donation and transplantation
• Donor detection and clinical evaluation
• Clinical diagnosis of brain death
• Confirmatory tests in brain death diagnosis
• Donor management and organ viability
• Communication in the ICU

Learning objectives:

• To have a command of basic terminology on organ donation in the ICU
• To increase knowledge and to strengthen skills of intensive care professionals on organ donation
• To promote the implementation of knowlegde and to acquire competences in order to set up an effective organ donation system in the ICU
• To facilitate exchanging of best practices and to develop an international networking
• To develop managerial capacity of potential deceased organ donors
