YPT Board Member 2021-2025

Stan Benjamens studied Medicine at the University of Groningen (The Netherlands). After a successful MD/PhD trajectory, he defended his PhD in 2021. In this fruitful collaboration between the University of Groningen, the Erasmus University Rotterdam and Imperial College renal and transplant centre, he explored the use of medical imaging before and after kidney transplantation. Besides his main focus on transplant imaging, he published articles on broader topics, such as European collaboration (Brexit), regulation for artificial intelligence and gender disparities in transplantation research.

He spent several months at the transplant centre of São Paulo, Brazil, (Hospital do Rim e Hipertensão) and worked in the Nkhoma Mission Hospital in Malawi. As newly appointed guest editor for Transplantology, he hopes to enable a group of young and international researchers to publish on emerging subjects (artificial intelligence, imaging and telemedicine).

Currently, Stan is performing his specialty training in General Surgery at the Erasmus University Medical Center and affiliated regional hospitals.
