The ESOT Mentorship Programme

A 12-month journey to support your growth in transplantation

The ESOT Mentorship Programme aims to provide transplant professionals with the opportunity for interaction and expert guidance at a key stage of their careers. Mentoring is a proven, powerful personal development tool that can help one develop one’s career, change direction if desired or necessary, and support work-life balance. ​

The programme welcomes five mentors and mentees from all disciplines, and participants can apply to work with expert mentors selected based on their speciality and needs. It is addressed to:

  • young professionals who need guidance to develop their career;
  • more advanced professionals who may need guidance at a particular stage of their career or who are considering a change of direction;​​

Members of traditionally underrepresented and/or marginalised groups are particularly encouraged to apply.

Programme benefits

Mentees will: 

  • Get expert guidance on their personal and professional development from an established leader in the field
  • Build self-awareness and confidence
  • Work on their professional development 
  • Expand their network 
  • Develop new synergies and collaborations.
  • Receive funding to visit their mentor’s centre
  • Receive free registration for the ESOT Congress

Mentors will: 

  • Have the opportunity to share their experience and expertise
  • Be able to support the development of and give something back to the field of transplantation
  • Expand their own network
  • Refine their management and leadership skills 
  • Receive free registration for the ESOT Congress


Programme structure

What: 

  • Workshop on effective mentoring practices (for mentors)
  • Kick-off meeting with all mentor-mentee pairs
  • Monthly online mentor-mentee meetings 
  • Professional development workshops
  • Visit to mentor’s centre
  • Mid-term online session
  • In-person networking event
  • Periodic progress review 
  • Closing session, evaluation survey and final certificate

When: 12 months – January-December 2027

Where: online + special networking event at the ESOT Congress 2027 (26-29 September 2027, Prague, Czech Republic)

Academia workshops

ACADEMIA provides participants with training on some of the key skills necessary to succeed in research, publishing, and professional interactions. It is aimed at professionals who wish to learn how to conduct rigorous research, get published, effectively present their work, and become culturally competent professionals. Key topics include: how to conduct a systematic review; statistics; presentation skills; communication with patients; diversity and inclusion. These can be either combined in a three-day course or presented in individual workshops held in conjunction with other events.

Professional development workshops

The professional development workshop series 50 Minutes to grow your career provides expert advice and practical tips to support the personal and professional development of transplant professionals at all career stages. The topics of this series are selected based on the results of an educational needs assessment conducted by ESOT in 2022.
