Dr. Oscar Gonzalez Fernandez is a cardiologist specialised in heart transplantation and advanced heart failure. He has a PhD in right heart failure in patients with ventricular assist devices.
He currently works as a Consultant Cardiologist in heart transplantation and advanced heart failure at the Freeman Hospital in Newcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom, and he is also an Associated Clinical Lecturer in the Translation and Clinical Research Institute in the Faculty of Medical Sciences at Newcastle University.
Dr. Oscar Gonzalez Fernandez has also completed a masters in Research Methodology in Health Sciences.
He has developed his career between Spain and the United Kingdom, and is fully committed to the care of patients with heart transplantation, left ventricular assist devices, and advanced heart failure.
He is also part of the Regenerative Medicine and Stem Cell and Transplantation theme group at Newcastle University.
His current research focuses on biomarkers in heart transplantation, with an emphasis on combining cell-free DNA and gene expression profiling to improve non-invasive monitoring and early detection of rejection, graft dysfunction and cardiac allograft vasculopathy in heart transplant recipients. He has actively been involved in research in right heart failure after ventricular assist device implantation and mechanical circulatory support for the systemic right ventricle.
