EPITA is established to provide a forum for those working in the field of pancreas and islet of Langerhans transplantation or any other alternative form of beta cell replacement in Europe, to exchange scientific information and views related primarily to providing the best service for patients in Europe requiring pancreas or islet transplantation.
VCA has opened a new era in the field of transplantation, reconstructive and restorative surgery. This Section brings together 10 representatives of major European teams at the forefront in this field.
Sarwa Darwish Murad (MD, PhD) completed her MD training (2004) and a PhD in vascular liver diseases (2008) at the Erasmus MC University Medical Center in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. She was subsequently trained as Internal Medicine doctor at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester MN, USA (2007-2010), followed by an AASDL funded research fellowship in liver transplantation for perihilar cholangiocarcinoma. In 2011, she returned to Rotterdam to complete her specialty training in Gastroenterology and Hepatology.
Since 2016, she works as a consultant hepatologist at the Erasmus MC, specialised in liver transplantation and vascular liver diseases. She joined the ELITA board in 2023. She has served on the board of the EASL endorsed VALDIG (vascular liver diseases interest group) from 2019-2023, and is the current president-elect of the Dutch Transplant Society. She is a member of EASL, ILTS, ESOT, and AST, and serves as associate editor for the American Journal of Transplantation and Transplant International.
