Marlies Reinders (MD, PhD) is a professor of Internal Medicine, Kidney Transplantation, and Nephrologist at the Erasmus MC and the Erasmus MC Transplant Institute. She studied Medicine in Groningen (RUG). From 2000 till 2002 she did her doctoral research in Boston at Harvard Medical School and Leiden University in the field of kidney transplantation. Her research focuses on the translation of innovations in transplantation. She published on regenerative therapies (such as mesenchymal stromal cells) in kidney transplantation and is involved in projects with epitope matching and strategies for immunized patients and corona vaccination for patients. In addition, she has a major interest in innovations in education in transplantation. She is the founder of the MOOC Clinical Kidney Transplantation and developed Augmented and Virtual Reality in kidney transplantation. At the moment her team is developing online modules for patient education. She is the Chair of ECTORS section of ESOT and a member of the ESOT council and the Education Committee of TTS.
