He is a Graduate of the Athens University Medical School where he completed his Ph.D thesis. He obtained his Internal Medicine Specialty and his Nephrology specialty at “Laiko” General Hospital of Athens, where he has been ever since a consultant at the Nephrology Department and Renal Transplantation Unit. For two years he served at the Nephrology Department of the Royal Hallamshire Hospital, University of Sheffield in the UK. Through a European Union fellowship, he studied renal osteodystrophy, in collaboration with the Department of Human Metabolism and Clinical Biochemistry of the University. Since 2003 he is the Director of both Nephrology and Renal Transplantation at “Laiko” General Hospital and as of 2005 he is serving as the Chief Medical officer of the hospital. In 2013, he was named Professor of Nephrology for the University of Athens Medical School.
He has a continuous educational presence, lecturing in a number of conferences and other events regarding a number of fields of his specialty. Over the years, he has served as Secretary General, Vice President and President of the Hellenic Society of Nephrology, the Hellenic Society of Transplantation and the Hellenic Society of Medical Studies. He has also been a member and currently serves as the Vice President of the Hellenic Transplantation Organization.
His research work focuses primarily on renal transplantation and clinical nephrology with a special interest in immunological diseases of the kidney. He participates in international working groups in the field of vasculitides, systemic lupus erythematosus and kidney transplantation. He is also a reviewer and member of the editorial committee of Greek and International Nephrology journals. He has more than 160 publications in international medical journals and a large number of papers in Greek and international conferences.
