His thesis (2017) focused on diagnosis and modulation of intestinal ischemia reperfusion injury in basic research models and immunological manipulation of clinical intestinal transplantation. Dr: Ceulemans published the results of his research in more than 30 peer-reviewed papers in high-impact journals. At the same time, he got strongly involved in the transplant community as board member of the Young Professionals in Transplantation workgroup (YPT; 2014-2017) and as board member of the Intestinal Rehabilitation and Transplantation Association (IRTA-TTS; 2017-2021). In 2019 Dr. Ceulemans performs a 6-month research and clinical fellowship at the UniversitätsSpital Zürich, Switzerland under supervision of professor Walter Weder where he investigates a rat model of EVLP and the potential of genetic manipulation. After this fellowship Dr. Ceulemans returns to Leuven where he will dedicate his career to the experimental and clinical lung transplantation program.
