Description & Objectives:

Organ shortage is among the important problems in the field of public health in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Increasing the donation of organs, strengthening the capacities of specialists in the procurement and perfusion of donated organs, as well as establishing effective coordination systems require not only a medical but also a multidisciplinary approach with ethical, legal, psycho-social, cultural, economic, and religious dimensions. At this Conference, it is aimed that the actors who will play key roles in increasing the capacity of organ donation and transplantation systems in Bosnia and Herzegovina will have knowledge and awareness of all dimensions of the subject and all stakeholders of the subject will come together. The importance of international cooperation for all aspects of the topic will be discussed through specific examples and models.

  • To improve deceased organ donation and transplantation services in B&H.
  • To present the state of art, legislative and regulatory aspects regarding organ donation.
  • To conceptualise the objectives of the donation process.
  • To raise public, decision-makers, and health authorities’ awareness regarding the importance of organ donation.
  • To promote the implementation of knowledge and to acquire competencies in order to set up an effective organ procurement system.
  • To improve healthcare professionals’ knowledge of acute and chronic kidney and liver failure and adequately assess referred patients for transplantation.
  • To facilitate exchanging of best practices and to develop international networking.
