Description & Objectives:

Dear Colleagues

The current global pandemic has had a tremendous impact in our lives. It has also affected our practice and has forced us to design an on-line “hands-on” course on split liver transplantation.

Despite Spain being a world leader in organ donation, it has not translated into a significant activity in split liver transplantation, specially compared with some neighbouring countries.  In April 2019 an ambitious new organ distribution scheme was introduced regarding all donors < 35 years as paediatrics in order to increase access to transplantation and shorten the waiting list.

Collaboration with “only” adult centres has been paramount in order to, not only favour the children’s transplants but also to increase the overall number of patients treated. This is only possible but splitting the liver into two graft. The purpose of this course is to consolidate the split process so all members of the transplant community can contribute and effectively owe the initiative. We have planned a combination of on-line lectures with an interactive hands-on workshop with obtained cadaveric liver where left lateral and full right/left partition will be discussed.
