International Workshop in Family Approach in Organ Donation – Endorsed by ESOT

Start Date:
Monday, November 15th 2021
End Date:
Wednesday, November 17th 2021
Country:
online
Description & Objectives:

The communication skills required for effective and difficult conversations with the patient relatives get more complicated in the frame of SARS-CoV-2 pandemic. These conversations are best conducted when the staff are specially trained and are able to establish a therapeutic relationship with the family. These concepts are the foundation of this course.

Improving consent rates for organ/tissue donation from deceased donors is a key component of strategies worldwide to increase donation and subsequently save the lives of others through transplantation.

Dynamically designed and delivered, the interactive programme focuses on best practice tips and techniques that will allow you to strengthen and perfect your communication ability in these key areas:

  • Increased self-awareness – gaining insights in how to communicate effectively and help define interpersonal skills
  • Support families based on trust and mutual respect

The course is delivered online, structured in five sessions along three days led by a worldwide group of experts.

It follows a practical and interactive methodology that give participants opportunities to practice specific communication skills in structured activities and small group settings. For this reason, attendance is limited to a maximum of 32 participants.

An immersive learning experience though VR technology will be performed by every student at the end of the course, as a wrap-up exercise. Students will be immersed in a room in front of a patient’s family and will have to deal with them in a realistic environment. They will obtain feedback at every step of the conversation, and a final debriefing.
