ELPAT Vice-Chair

Frederike Ambagtsheer is an assistant professor and organ trafficking researcher at Erasmus MC’s Department of Internal Medicine, Section Nephrology and Transplantation, where she has been working since 2009.  She has a MSc in Criminology, a LL.M in Public International Law and she obtained her PhD on the Organ Trade in 2017.  She initiated/coordinated the first EU-funded project on organ trafficking (the HOTT Project, 2012-2016) and is the recipient of a Veni grant from the Dutch Research Council (NWO) for the project, ‘Organs as a Gateway to Europe: studying kidney sales among migrants entering the EU’ (2021-2026) and a NWO XS Pilot Grant studying public opinions on (dis)incentives for organ donation in Europe (2023-2024). From 2009 until 2014 she was ELPAT Coordinator during which she organized/coordinated the 2nd and 3rd ELPAT conferences in Rotterdam, The Netherlands in 2010 and 2013. She was also scientific program committee member of the 4th and 5th ELPAT Conference in Rome, Italy (2016) and Krakow, Poland (2019).
