Amedeo Carraro (MD, PhD, FEBS) is a Transplant Surgeon. He currently holds the position of Director of the Liver Transplant Unit at the University Hospital Trust of Verona, Italy
Dr. Carraro graduated in Medicine in 2001 and completed his Residency Program in Surgery at the University Hospital of Padova, Italy.
He earned his PhD in Surgical Sciences and Technological Application in 2012 from the University of Padova, focusing on Liver Tissue Engineering. He also obtained the title of Fellow of the European Board of Transplant Surgery in 2018.
Between 2004 and 2005 he was a Researcher Fellow at the Center for Regenerative Medicine, MGH-Harvard University Boston (USA) under the supervision of Prof. JP Vacanti and improved his scientific and clinical education at the Department of Surgery of the University Health Network of Toronto (CA). In 2012, Dr. Carraro joined the General Surgery and Liver Transplant Unit of the University Hospital Trust of Verona as Consultant Surgeon and was appointed as the Head of the Liver Transplant Unit in 2021. He also holds the position of the Coordinator of the Translational Medicine Group for Solid Organ Transplantation at the University Hospital of Verona.
His clinical and research interests include Hepatobiliary Surgery, Liver Surgery, Liver Cancer, Translational Science and Tissue Engineering. He is the author of articles related to transplantation and basic science.
