Introduction
The European Liver and Intestine Transplant Association (ELITA) is the Organ Expert Section of ESOT which represents the knowledge on liver and intestinal transplantation in Europe. ELITA provides a forum for those working in the field of liver and intestinal transplantation to exchange scientific information and views related primarily to providing the best service for patients in Europe requiring liver or intestinal transplantation. ELITA also maintains a relationship with national European government agencies as well as with the organ exchange organisations focussing on its expertise in liver and intestine transplantation. On behalf of ESOT is ELITA the official representative body of liver and intestinal transplantation in Europe.

ELITA will continue to be the driving force for maintaining and developing the European Liver Transplant Registry – ELTR (www.eltr.org) – with audited data from more than 77.000 liver transplants including a living liver donor data base.

ELITA was founded in 1993 under the name ELTA (European Liver Transplant Association) which changed to “European Liver and Intestine Transplant Association” (ELITA) on October 18th, 2005 when intestine transplant was added to its focus.
