APPLICATION
You can apply for this course in the ESOT Member Avenue. You have to be either a Temporary member or a full ESOT Member to receive access to the Member Avenue. If you are not a (Temporary) Member you can apply here. Temporary Membership is free and lasts six months. When the course application of a Temporary Member is accepted a Temporary Member has to become a full ESOT Member.
The Course is open for about 30 clinicians who are currently being trained in the field of hepatology and liver transplantation.
Submission should be accompanied by:
1. A supporting letter from the Program Director or Head of Department
2. CV
3. Abstract of clinical or basic science reasearch or clinical case report
Objectives
a) To provide a podium for young hepatologists, who are specializing in clinical liver transplantation, to discuss new and current topics in the management of complications of acute and chronic liver disease, in the selection of candidates to liver transplantation and in the management of clinical complications and long-term outcomes of liver transplantation. Established and internationally recognized leaders in the field should be selected as tutors. The Course will provide an opportunity to meet peers and make contacts and networks that may enhance future collaborations and multi-centre research.
b) To discuss on difficult clinical cases.
c) To practice and be educated in scientific presentations.
Format
The Course is organized as a 3-days meeting. The program includes lectures from recognized experts in the filed, clinical case presentation and interactive discussion by internationally recognized leaders in the field of liver disease complications and liver transplantation management, selected presentations of original scientific work by the attending fellows.
Attendees
The Course is open for about 30 young clinicians (<40 year) who are currently being trained in the field of hepatology and liver transplantation, or who are a junior staff member at one of the Hepatology and Liver Transplant Centres in the Europe.
The number of attendees will be limited to enhance active participation and to stimulate communication between attendees and program faculty.
Directors of Hepatology, Gastroenterology, Internal Medicine and Liver Transplant Programs in Europe will be invited to submit name and curriculum vitae of a person they would like to propose as a candidate for participation in the Course.
Submission should be accompanied by a supporting letter from the Program Director or Head of the Department. Based on their C.V. and/or previous achievements it should be evident that candidates are pursuing a career in the field of clinical Hepatology and Liver Transplantation.
Attending fellows will be selected by the EC of ESOT based on their C.V. and abstract submitted. Participants must attend the entire workshop and are expected to actively participate in the discussions.
Contributions by attendees
All attendees have to submit an abstract summarizing research work they have performed in the field of management of complications of acute and chronic liver disease, selection of candidates to liver transplantation, outcomes of liver transplantation or a unique clinical case report, which he/she performed in the field of complications of acute and chronic liver disease, selection of candidates to liver transplantation, or outcomes of liver transplantation being able to present at the Course.
Selected abstracts will be presented by the attending fellows (18 out of 30 submitted abstracts). The HLTC chairman and the Local Host will select the 18 abstracts for the presentation. Presentations will be evaluated by the Program Faculty present at the Course and discussed with the attendee after his/her presentation. Attention will be given to the scientific content as well as to the presentation itself. For detailed instructions see Section 3 below.
Awards
Two awards will be given for the best presentations given by two of the attending fellows at the Course: one for “the best basic science abstract and presentation” and one for “the best clinical research abstract and presentation”.
Selection for the awards is based on the quality of the abstract, the slides used during the presentation as well as the performance of the presenter during the presentation and the discussion.
The Program Faculty will select the two best abstracts.
The awards will include a certificate (for examples see appendix 1 and 2) and an amount of € 500 for each award winner.
