Organization Scope

Introduction
The European Society for Organ Transplantation (ESOT) aims to become the umbrella organization under which all European transplant activities are organised. ESOT cooperates with many transplant organizations t
o structure and streamline these transplant activities in Europe. Several Organ Expert Sections within ESOT represent expert knowledge on the respective organs. ESOT trains and supports its members through an extensive educational and basic science programme and encourages excellence through an award and grant programme. Furthermore ESOT gathers the European and international transplant scene at its biannual Congress organised in a European city.

Council
The Council of ESOT consists of the president, past president, vice-president (currently not applicable), secretary, treasurer and eight other Councillors. In addition, the chairmen of the respective Organ Expert Sections of ESOT participate in the Council. The Council regularly convenes to set out plans for the Society.

General Assembly
During the General Assembly Meeting which takes place once every two years during the biannual congress members vote on several issues concerning the society.

Sections
Organ and/or Expert Sections are the specific groups within ESOT. Currently there are five sections: ELITA focussing on liver & intestines, EPITA focussing on pancreas & islets, the Thoracic Committee in conjunction with the ESHLT focussing on heart & lungs, ELPAT focussing on ethical, legal and psychosocial aspects of organ transplantation and the Kidney Committee focussing on kidney.

Committees
A number of key activities of ESOT are supervised by the several committees. Currently there are four committees: the Ambassador Committee, the Basic Science Committee, the Education Committee and the European Donation Committee.
